Lineside and Station Sequences
Part Twenty Eight

Stratford – 14 April 1961

Box Hill, Ponders End and Stratford – June 1961

Euston – 5 August 1961

There were just 21 minutes between the first and last photograph in the series from the platform at Stratford on 14 April. Four steam classes and one (rare) diesel – exciting times.

In May 1961 I went on two organised works and shed bashes, which you can see in my Engine Portraits series. The first was by coach to Swindon and sheds in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. The second was to Derby and Crewe and I have no memory of how we got there!

I only have four photos to show for the whole of June 1961, and then nothing until September. The first image in June was taken while I was on a field trip on Box Hill in Surrey, looking at the geological structures and searching for fossils. By luck a train passed on the Reading to Redhill line, and I tried to capture the scene. After that, just one photo at Ponders End, and two at Stratford.

And that was that for the summer, until a long session at Potters Bar early in September.
