MY LIFE IN TRAINS
Lineside and Station Sequences
Part Twenty Three
Newton Abbot – 2, 3 and 4 September 1960
Over the next three days I had four short photographic sessions on the platforms of Newton Abbot station, with the 3 September being a Saturday when the action got pretty intense: loads of holiday trains, with all of those going over the South Devon banks to Plymouth requiring a pilot engine in both directions. On the Saturday afternoon, many of the down holiday trains were queuing up to attach their pilot engines.
The fourth session at Newton Abbot was on the Sunday afternoon – much quieter than the previous day but still plenty of photogenic subjects.
Again, you may have seen some of these already in the My Story Series.

Brilliant set of photographs, brings back many memories of an eight year old sitting on the wall near the West Box to watch the trains coming and going. Kevin Johns
